The Lily Foundation Mission
The Lily Foundation is committed to finding a cure for Mitochondrial Disease and other metabolic disorders through funding research and providing support to those involved and affected by metabolic disorders.
How We Will Achieve Our Mission
With your support The Lily Foundation will be raising money for 3 very key areas.
New Gene Testing Programme
The Lily Foundation will be funding a brand new gene testing programme in conjunction with Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital. This will be used in specialised Mitochondrial research units throughout the UK. The programme will use a chip technology making it possible to research multiple genes at one time. Currently, only one gene is tested at one time.
This will cost £400,000 over a two year period.
Family Accommodation
With children sometimes having to travel great distances to receive the treatment they need, it is important for them to have their family close by. The Lily Foundation will provide funding to support a new house being built at St Thomas’, to provide a home from home environment for families to stay close to their sick children.
Training
The training of the metabolic team is essential in the process of finding a cure for metabolic
disorders. With NHS funding being extremely limited, this dedicated team of professionals often have to self fund in order to attend courses and conferences. The Lily Foundation will support the metabolic team by providing funds for this all important training.
