The following gives you a brief taste of the challenge ahead!
DAY 1: London to Kilimanjaro
Depart London for Tanzania.
DAY 2: Arusha
Upon arrival you transfer to Arusha town for a trip briefing and chance to relax before the challenge begins
DAY 3: Start of the trek to Machame Camp
Your challenge starts today at Machame Gate (1743m), the beginning of your route up the mountain. You start at a steady pace through the lush rainforest giving you the chance to spot some of the colourful birds and wildlife that call this area home. Your campsite tonight is Machame Camp at 3100m. Trekking time approx 5-7 hours.
DAY 4: Machame Camp to Shira Caves
After your first night under canvas you wake early for a hearty breakfast before setting off for your second day trekking. You leave the rainforest today and enter moorland plains, scattered with rocks and heather. Your camp tonight is by Shira Caves which sits at 3840m. Trekking time approx 4-6 hours.
DAY 5: Shira Caves to Barranco Camp
You leave camp behind this morning and head east for your ascent to the Lava Tower at 4,600m. The scenery dramatically changes as you head into the Barranco Valley where you are met by huge senecio plants before setting sight upon your camp at 3,900m. Trekking time approx 6-7 hours.
DAY 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley
Your challenge this morning is the Barranco Wall which you can see from camp. The path to the top is steep but you are rewarded with stunning views across Karanga Valley where you will camp tonight at 4040m. Trekking time approx 4-5 hours.
DAY 7: Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp
This morning's walk is a short but steep uphill climb across barren landscapes with lots of boulders and rocks. Tonight you will have the chance to rest and take in Kilimanjaro's neighbouring peak before your final push to the summit tomorrow! Trekking time approx 4-5 hours
DAY 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Millennium Camp
Your trek this morning begins very early and you ascend slowly but surely following the trail of torches in the distance heading towards the summit. This will be a tough day but will certainly provide lots of memorable moments as by sunrise you should be near Stella Point (5750m), which lies on the crater rim. From here you continue your trek to the Uhuru summit (5895m), the roof of Africa! After our celebrations here you descend back down to Millennium Camp (3000m), your final home on the mountain, with a rest stop at Barafu Camp on the way. Trekking time approx 10-12 hours
DAY 9: Millennium Camp to Hotel
Your final trek down the mountain through rainforest leads you to the Mweka gate where you collect a certificate of ascent and say goodbye to the mountain. Tonight the celebrations commence with a chance to party with your new trekking buddies and reflect on the incredible challenge you’ve completed together! Trekking time approx 5 hours
