Awareness Week

16-22 September 2018

Global Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week

Help us make Global Mitochondrial Awareness Week 2018 the biggest yet! You can make a huge impact during the week whether it be at work, school or within your local community.

At school

Mito Awareness Week is the perfect time to tell your school about mitochondrial disease. Ask you teacher if you can present a short talk on mito, perhaps sharing your experience of the disease of talking about a friend or family member. You could even get your classmates involved in a fun activity or challenge to help raise awareness about the disease.

At work

Holding a fundraising day at work is a great way to raise awareness about mito, build team spirit and break up the routine of the week! Set up an awareness stand in the office, organise a 'wear something green' day, sign up to a Lily event with your colleagues or ask them to sponsor you in a personal challenge.

In your community

There are countless ways to raise make some noise about mito in your local area. Cake stalls, coffee mornings, jumble sales and raffles are all fun ways to bring the community together while raising funds and awareness at the same time. If you need a venue for your activity try asking your village hall, church or community centre if they can help.

Around The World For Mito

Many of our amazing supporters have spent the summer walking, running, cycling, running and swimming their way towards our target of 24,901 miles – the circumference of the Earth! We're almost there, but still have a few thousand miles to go. Why not sign up today and help us get there in time for September 22, the last day of Global Mito Awareness Week? If you can get your school or workplace involved, even better!

Sign up today and make a difference!

Manage a Mito Awareness Stand

Our new Lily awareness stands are going down a storm! We've sent out 36 so far to Lily volunteers all around the UK. If you'd like to add to that number you can apply using our online form. We'll get a stand sent out to you, complete with everything you need to make an impact during Mito Awareness Week. Manning a Lily stand is great fun and a really good way to introduce more people to the facts about mito.

Share our Mito Facts

Every day throughout Mito Awareness Week we're going to be sharing a different fact about mitochondrial disease on social media. Be sure to look out for the posts on Twitter and Facebook, and share them with your friends to help spread the word. We've chosen facts that are certain to make an impression and help people realise the importance of our cause. Every time you share a fact with someone new you've made a difference!

Whatever you choose to do to mark Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week, please don't forget to tell us! Tag us on Twitter or Facebook or email [email protected] and we'll make sure everyone knows about it!
