Dear supporter,
We’re delighted to share some truly hopeful news.
New research published today has confirmed the early success of mitochondrial donation IVF – a pioneering fertility technique that helps prevent certain types of mitochondrial disease being passed from mother to child.
This is a huge step forward. For families affected by mito, it offers the possibility of having healthy, genetically related children, something that not so long ago felt out of reach.
Back in 2015, The Lily Foundation stood at the heart of the campaign to legalise mitochondrial donation. We worked alongside scientists, families and policymakers to push for change. And today, that work is bearing fruit.
Thank you to everyone in our community – the families who bravely shared their stories, the researchers who kept pushing boundaries and the supporters who stood with us every step of the way.
This breakthrough belongs to us all. And it brings us one step closer to a future where no child has to suffer from mitochondrial disease.
With gratitude,
Liz and the Lily team x
