Welcome to your Big Lily Quiz hub
Thank you for signing up to host a Lily Quiz Night. We’re so excited to have you on board. Our Big Lily Quiz is running from Saturday 16th to Sunday 24th May, so we’d love you to plan your event during that week if you can. However, if our quiz week doesn’t work for you, feel free to host your quiz at a time that suits you – every penny you raise will still make a difference.
If you know your general knowledge from your nonsense and fancy turning trivia into vital support for people affected by mitochondrial disease, then you’ve come to the right place. A Lily Quiz Night is the perfect mix of fun, facts and fundraising.
Did you know a charity quiz can raise up to £1,000? Whether you’re fundraising on your own, as part of a team or working towards a sporting challenge target, it’s a brilliant way to bring people together whilst making a real difference.

Simple guidance to help you plan and run a great quiz night
Feel free to use our quiz rounds or create your own. The most important thing is to gather your friends, family or colleagues, have a great time and raise vital funds to help people living with mitochondrial disease.
This is just a brief guide. Need more help? Please contact [email protected] for advice, Lily resources or to request quiz questions.
Round 1 – start with your strategy
- Set your fundraising target – quizzes typically raise from £300-£1000!
- Choose your audience – friends, family, work colleagues, school parents, team mates… the more the merrier.
- Pick a date and time – our official Quiz Week runs from 16th–24th May, so feel free to host your quiz whenever suits you.
Round 2 – set the scene
- Request a letter of authority – The Lily Foundation will provide this to show you’re fundraising officially.
- Find a venue – think pub, village hall, school, sports club or community centre.
- To feed or not to feed – will snacks be included, BYO or available for a donation?
- Check accessibility – is the space inclusive for everyone?
- Ask about decorations – can you display Lily balloons or bunting?
Round 3 – prep & plan
- Wheels in motion – email [email protected] to register your event and request fundraising materials.
- Sort your set-up – finalise timings for setting up tables, tech and scoreboards.
- Size is everything – nail down team sizes and ticket pricing. £5 per person is a good start if there’s no food included. If included, make sure you’ll still make a profit.
- Decide on a format – number of rounds, use of jokers, bonus picture or tasting rounds (we can provide quiz questions on request). And don’t forget to schedule a half-time break.
- Pick the prize – this is often a % of the overall takings. Perhaps offer £50 for the wining team.
- Create your quiz packs – include answer sheets, Lily leaflets, any additional materials and a QR code for donations.
- Add a mini-game or raffle – a few prizes can really boost fundraising, and Heads or Tails is a fun quick win!
Round 4 – drum up your dream team
- Big shoutout – promote via social media, email and WhatsApp groups.
- Share your story – the reason you’re supporting The Lily Foundation will have a big impact.
- The help – recruit volunteers to help with collecting answer sheets or selling raffle tickets.
- Encourage early bookings – ask for full payment up-front to reduce dropouts.
Round 5 – lights, questions, action
- Set the scene – decorate your venue with Lily balloons, bunting and leaflets.
- Question sheets – place quiz packs on each table.
- Welcome your guests – thank them and share your reasons for supporting Lily.
- Kick things off – run your first few rounds then break for raffle and refreshments before the final rounds and the big reveal!
Tiebreak – scores on the doors
- Announce your total – thank your guests and celebrate your success.
- Say thank you – thank the venue privately and publicly via social media or even local press. Ask The Lily Foundation to provide a certificate of thanks.
- Bank your funds – transfer the money to us with a clear reference.
Good luck – and thank you for helping to fight mito and find hope for our community.
