Mason first learned about mitochondrial disease through Indelible Fine Art, a gallery he works with in Brighton. Deeply moved by the impact of the condition, he’d originally signed up to do a skydive for us, but when his fear of heights got the better of him, he decided to take action the best way he knew how: through his art.
He created a bespoke piece specifically for the charity, which was auctioned off at Tate Ward Auctions and which smashed expectations by raising over £8,000.
“When I heard about mitochondrial disease, it broke my heart,” says Mason. “The easiest way for me to do my bit was to create a painting and put it up for auction. It’s not bad is it, £8,000? It won’t be the last time I support The Lily Foundation, either.”
Beyond the incredible financial contribution, Mason is passionate about shining a light on the disease. “Raising awareness of this horrible and heartbreaking disease is so important,” he continues. “I’d never heard of mito until the guys at Indelible enlightened me, then I did my research and just had to help.”
A massive thank you to Mason for his talent, generosity and commitment to the fight against mito. This donation will make a huge difference in our mission to provide support and raise vital awareness.
