A study to understand the family planning views and experiences of women with an mtDNA/maternally inherited primary mitochondrial disorder.

What is this study about?

The study aims to capture the views of women who have made family planning choices in light of their maternally inherited mitochondrial disease diagnosis.

Where will the study take place and who is responsible?

The study is run by UCLH and is part of a larger project led by Professor Michael G. Hanna. This arm of the study is a one-off interview which will take place by video or telephone call and will be conducted by a trainee Genetic Counsellor.

Women who have made family planning choices in light of a maternally inherited mitochondrial disorder.

What is involved in taking part?

A one-off interview, lasting roughly an hour or so.

Are there any risks?

There is a possibility that participants may feel distressed by the interview questions and nature of discussion.

Are there any benefits to taking part?

There are no direct benefits to taking part in this study. However, we hope that the outcomes of this study will allow us to improve patient care for those with mtDNA disorders.
